Mensendieck"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Nine Steps in Assuming the Balanced Sitting Position<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n  <li><em>Sit toward the <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">front edge<\/span> of the chair. <\/em>Only by sitting toward the font of the chair can you assure proper use of the sitting bones. Otherwise you will be sitting partly on your thighs, drawing the back out of line.<\/li>\n  <li><em>Place both feet flat and parallel on the ground, a few inches apart. <\/em>The feet serve as a good foundation for the body even in the sitting position. Have the feet flat on the floor, straight and parallel to each other and about <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">three inches apart<\/span>. The pressure should be directed at the area back of the <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">big toe<\/span> including the bog toe joint. This, you remember is the <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">ball of the foot<\/span>.<\/li>\n  <li><em>Use the sitting bones. <\/em>With some practice, you can readily know when you are seated on the balancing point of the sitting bones. It will be the spot where the pressure of the sitting bone is greatest against the chair.<\/li>\n  <li><em>Hold the <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">knees parallel.<\/span> <\/em>With the legs bent, have the knees face straight forward and about three inches apart.<\/li>\n  <li><em>Press slightly onto the <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">ball of each foot<\/span>, and ont\u3000o the sitting bones.<\/em><\/li>\n  <li><em>Draw the head and truck up <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">tall and straight<\/span>. <\/em>With the long back muscles, slowly stretch the spine straight upward toward the center of the head, the &#8220;crown&#8221; of the head.<\/li>\n  <li><em>Hold the <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">chin<\/span> at the <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">right angle<\/span> to the neck.<\/em><\/li>\n  <li><em>Gently, with the shoulder blade muscles, draw both <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">shoulder blades toward the Middle Line<\/span>.<\/em><\/li>\n  <li><em>Let the <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">arms hang loosely<\/span> at the sides.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Eight Steps in Assuming the Balanced Standing Position<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n  <li>Place both <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">feet parallel, a few inches apart, big toes pointing straight ahead<\/span>.<\/li>\n  <li>Slowly draw the buttock and Adductor muscles (along the inner margin of the thigh) tightly together.<\/li>\n  <li>Press toward the <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">ball of each foot<\/span>, and hold the body weight evenly distributed on both legs.<\/li>\n  <li>With the muscles in front of the thighs (Quadriceps), <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">pull up<\/span> both <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">kneecaps<\/span>.<\/li>\n  <li>From the small of the back (lumbar region), with the long back muscles, slowly stretch the <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">back straight upward<\/span>. Draw yourself up toward the &#8220;crown&#8221; of the head.<\/li>\n  <li>Simultaneously, gently move the <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">chin<\/span> slightly forward until it is held at <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">right angle<\/span> to the font of the neck.<\/li>\n  <li>From the center of the upper back, with the shoulder blade muscles (Rhomboideus and Trpezius), slowly draw the <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">shoulder blades back and down<\/span> until they are flat and held together.<\/li>\n  <li>Let the <span style=\"background-color: #fdff00;\">arms hang loosely<\/span> at the sides.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nine Steps in Assuming the Balanced Sitting Position Sit toward the front edge of the chair.
